Oil and charcoal on canvas, 31 1/4 × 64 1/4 in.

A solo exhibition by Kenneth Diaz exploring abandoned spaces, fading structures, and what might come next.

What gets left behind still has something to say.

THE EXHIBITION

In Deadmalls&Nightfalls, Kenneth Diaz examines the life cycle of man-made spaces—from careful planning and construction to abandonment, deterioration, and destruction. His work considers the traces these places leave behind and the stories we project onto them after their original purpose has disappeared.

Rather than offering a single interpretation, Diaz invites viewers to sit with the tension between loss and possibility. Are these structures simply evidence of decline, or can their endings make room for reinvention? When people move on, does nature reclaim what was always temporary?

The exhibition looks backward with curiosity while keeping one eye on what comes next—asking us to consider how we build, what we leave behind, and whether anything is ever truly finished.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kenneth Diaz is a self-taught Puerto Rican American oil painter based in Omaha, Nebraska. His connection to art began at age nine, when he discovered an oversized book of Norman Rockwell illustrations in his mother’s collection. Although he initially chose a traditional college and career path rather than art school, he later returned to art and began developing a style that moved beyond technical illustration toward something more expressive.

Diaz’s work incorporates charcoal and layered color to create depth and explore subjects and themes that invite a closer look. His paintings have appeared primarily in solo exhibitions and regional group shows throughout the Midwest. In recent years, he has focused on refining his technique while pursuing themes that challenge viewers to consider the stories, memories, and possibilities held within familiar places.
